EN 425: Senior Seminar

When I arrived at about 11am with my mom who was visiting New York I was not entirely sure what the mesueum was about or what had gone on hundreds of years ago. A large reason it was created because of how badly African-Americans were treated in NYC and the surrounding area. They could not burry there black friends and family in Manhattan and they were forced to leave the elsewhere. Along with this the white people around them treated them horribly and were basically slaves to them. Overall the burial ground was very sleek and new and had a lot of nice monuments out side that really made me want to explore. Inside there were many cool diagrams and background stories that went with them. Although these things were interesting finding out the history behind them and the horrible things that happened made me feel bit sad. But overall it was an experience and I learned some new things about NYC and black history here.

Afterschool program - Fall 2018

Today I went to park hill from 6-8. Most of the same duds were there from last time. We spent the beginning time doing some homework with them and chatting. More kids started to come in about 30 minutes later. One of the leaders of nepella brought in food for all of us for an early thanksgiving. It was African food and it was very generous. I drew pictures with a kid name Alfred and he was a pretty good artist for a young kid. After everyone ate we just chatted for awhile until the shuttle arrived. Overall it was another good experience and I am getting to know the kids even better now.
